It is gold plated; extremely detailed. Made in Italy. Size: 1.8 cm / 0,71 inch Beautiful item to treasure for years to come. Bring it always with you, with a chain around your neck. It’s a special treasure to keep near to your heart. Offered is this old medal picturing the Holy Face of Jesus and on reverse a radian Sacred Host with the monogram of Jesus IHS . Engraved around the Holy Face of Jesus is Illumina Domine Vultum Tuum super nos with the letters I.O.G.D. or May the light of your Face, O Lord, shine upon us – God may be glorified in all things. On reverse is Mane nobiscum Domine, or Stay with us O Lord. This particular medal of the Holy Face of was designed by Sr. Maria Pierina De Micheli in 1938. It was designed as a weapon against hatred towards God and the Church. In its complete design the engraved medal provides a twofold communication, one on its obverse or prominent side, another on its reverse. Considering the former we see depicted the Face of Jesus (reconstructed from the Holy Shroud) bearing the inscription “illumina Domine Vultum Tuum super nos” (may the light of your Face, O Lord, shine upon us). It captures and expresses in a remarkable way the meaning of the sacrifice of the cross by which He accomplished redemption.On the reverse side of the – medal is a host surrounded by rays with the following words: Mane nobiscum Domine” (Stay with us, O Lord). It signifies our present sacrifice of the Mass, or the Holy Eucharist, our greatest act of worship. Jesus remains with us in the Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist and He is present at all times in the Tabernacle wafting for a visit from us to keep Him company.
