eBay 2010 Texas Duck Stamp Print American Wigeon by Peter Mathios This Texas duck stamp print of the American wigeon has been custom framed by our family’s custom retail frame shop. It is frame with conservation grade acid-free materials plus UV blocking glass to protect and preserve this limited edition print for generations. The frame is solid wood with a beautiful charcoal and antiqued silver finish that brings out the coloring of the feathers and the shadows in the reeds and marsh water. The matting is a soft brown suede and gray accent underneath. All the colors are a neutral palette that bring out the natural beauty of the colors and texture in the Wigeon’s feathers. American wigeon are common throughout Texas during fall and winter months. These dapper ducks often fly in large flocks and decoy readily, signaling their presence with distinctive peeping whistles as they parachute into the spread. The drake has a conspicuous white forehead and crown, earning it the nickname “baldpate.” Up close, where striking green postocular stripes are apparent, the drake is an elegant bird. Along with most other common duck species, wigeon numbers have increased dramatically in recent years. About the artist Peter Mathios learned a deep appreciation for waterfowl while duck hunting with his family in northern California’s Suisun Marsh. He earned an art degree from the University of California at Davis and moved to Oregon where he and his wife, Rachelle, are raising their family. Mathios was Ducks Unlimited’s 2009 International Artist of the Year and has been Oregon’s DU Artist of the Year seven times.
